The flame trap is a one-way valve fitted to the crankcase breather system of the 3.5 V8 carburettor engine, designed to prevent flame propagation back into the crankcase in the eve nt of a backfire. It also regulates the recirculation of blow-by gases, maintaining crankcase pressure and protecting seals from premature failure. A blocked or deteriorated flame trap causes oil leaks, increased crankcase pressure, and rough running due to unmetered air entering the intake system.
