Flat Top Double Bit Axe (with Sheath) This axe is designed for camping and bush craft - to give more versatility and options in the outdoors. The double bit head is hand forged fro m 5160 steel and is fully heat treated. One bit is convex ground, the other is ground flatter. The double bit head is hand forged from 5160 steel and is fully heat treated. The two cutting edges on the axe head have two main benefits. The first is that you don’t have to sharpen the edges as often (since there are two). The second benefit is the ability to use one side for “clean” work, and the other side for “dirty” work that dulls the axe head faster or that brings greater risk of damage. The handle is sculpted from American Ash with a wooden wedge to fit the head to the handle which is proud of the eye. Both the head and handle have a finishing coat of linseed oil. A handmade leather sheath for the head is included. Our sheath leather is full grain, vegetable tanned cowhide leather. The sheath will help protect your tool and keep it sharp and protected. The sheath is fastened together with metal snap button closures.
