Flecha Azul Extra Anejo 750ML is a 100% Blue Weber Agave extra añejo tequila bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof) and aged for 36 months using the Solera method. What distinguishes this expression from most extra añejos is its use of Solera aging — a fractional blending technique more commonly associated with sherry and rum production — carried out in hand-selected bourbon-seasoned American oak barrels at the Orendain Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.Quick Facts: ABV: 40% (80 proof) | Origin: Jalisco, Mexico | Extra Añejo (36 Months, Solera Method) | Distillery: Orendain (NOM 1110)Production & HeritageFlecha Azul Extra Anejo is produced at the Orendain Distillery, operating under NOM 1110 in Jalisco. The liquid begins with 100% Blue Weber Agave, processed using volcanic water and a proprietary yeast strain, then double-distilled through copper pot stills via the traditional alembic process. The distillate enters a Solera system of bourbon-seasoned American oak barrels, where it rests for a minimum of 36 months. This fractional blending approach means older reserves continuously marry with newer stocks, building concentrated layers of complexity and a velvety texture rarely achieved through conventional single-barrel or batch aging in the tequila category.Tasting NotesAroma: The nose opens with warm praline and roasted pineapple, giving way to a deep vanilla sweetness underpinned by toasted oak. There is a subtle baking spice quality that signals the extended barrel influence.Taste: On the palate, dried figs and honey arrive first, followed by a mid-palate wave of dark chocolate, toasted almonds, and caramel. As it develops, dark vanilla and baking spice emerge alongside soft, well-integrated oak tannins that add structure without bitterness.Finish: The finish is long and ultra-smooth, with lingering sweet spice, honeyed oak, and a whisper of dried fruit. It fades slowly with a warmth that invites the next sip rather than demanding it.How to Drink Flecha Azul Extra AnejoThis tequila rewards patient sipping, ideally neat in a Riedel tequila glass or snifter at room temperature. A single large ice cube opens up additional caramel and vanilla aromatics without diluting the Solera-built complexity. For cocktails, the rich profile works in specific applications: an Extra Añejo Old Fashioned, where the dark chocolate and baking spice replace bourbon's typical grain sweetness; a Tequila Manhattan, where the dried fruit and oak tannins complement sweet vermouth beautifully; or a Café Añejo (tequila, cold brew, agave nectar), where the honey and praline notes create a naturally layered after-dinner drink.Best For Gifting a tequila enthusiast who appreciates rare production methods like Solera aging After-dinner sipping as a dessert-course spirit alongside chocolate or pastry Building a premium tequila collection that showcases different aging philosophies Hosting a comparative tasting of extra añejo tequilas with friends Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Flecha Azul Extra Anejo taste like? Don Julio 1942 is classified as an añejo aged a minimum of two and a half years, while Flecha Azul Extra Anejo carries a full 36-month Solera-aged extra añejo designation, resulting in a noticeably deeper, more concentrated flavor profile. The Solera method also gives Flecha Azul a fractional blending complexity that single-batch aging does not replicate. Is Flecha Azul Extra Anejo good for sipping neat? It positions as a premium extra añejo, and the Solera aging method — uncommon in tequila — adds genuine production complexity that justifies its place in the upper tier of the category. For drinkers who value distinctive aging techniques over brand recognition alone, it represents a compelling value within the extra añejo segment. Why Flecha Azul Extra Anejo? The Solera aging method is the defining feature here. While most extra añejos rely on straightforward barrel aging, the fractional blending system at Orendain continuously integrates older reserves with newer distillate over 36 months, producing a depth and consistency that single-vintage aging cannot easily match. The alembic copper pot still distillation preserves agave character beneath the oak influence, so the spirit never loses its identity to the barrel. For anyone exploring the extra añejo category beyond the usual names, this bottle demonstrates what happens when a traditional Mexican distillery applies a European aging philosophy to 100% Blue Weber Agave tequila — the result is distinctive, well-executed, and genuinely different from the competition.
