Originally discovered in Deftinge, Belgium during the Napoleonic Wars of 1810 by a Belgian pear 'enthusiast named Jean-Baptiste Van Mons. Van Mons is famous for his work with pears and documented the first pear seedling selection and growing process. Many European pears (Bosc and D'Anjou) stem from this selection process. The Flemish Beauty Pear is a medium sized pear with dark yellow russeted skin. Known for its soft, buttery yellow flesh and sweet, juicy flavor. It ripens a couple weeks before the Bartlett pear and is cold hardy. Tree is very vigorous and precocious.
