Flight/System is a large, 48"x24" original surrealist acrylic painting on canvas that captures a quiet urban moment in the city. I painted this to capture the moment a decision is made. The familiar environment of a TTC station transforms into an open, limitless sky, reflecting what was happening inside my head. It’s a moment of choice: to return to the way things have always been, to the System, or to choose a new path and take Flight. With the bold orange signage, the painting makes it clear which one I prefer. In this large painting, the choice becomes a quiet, in-between moment in the city. TTC-style wayfinding, suspended in a surreal sea of clouds, blends with the interior of the subway station. Directional signs glow against the cool, atmospheric background. Two perched birds sit on a sign, reminders of the resilience of nature. Painted in layered blues with soft whites and warm signal-orange, this calm piece is a reminder to take flight.
