In 2019, the band released their buzzy sophomore album Tropical Depression, receiving praise from Revolver, NPR, BrooklynVegan and more. As the pandemic hit and all the momentum that was building came to a sudden halt, band members began to move away from their hometown and the future of the band looked uncertain for years. Following an extended break until around 2022, Florida Man began feeling a sense of renewal as they started crafting their most creative and polished material yet.
