I have a view of a mountain from my house and watching it evolve with the seasons is a bit magical. In early spring the whole mountain is grey but then you see those first pops of chartreuse before the whole mountain erupts in vibrant green. Watching spring unfold inspired the shades of green I dyed for this quilt. Size - 48" x 57.5" The greens are made with Essex cotton/linen fabric that has been dyed with marigold, pomegranate and iron. The accent colors are tan from walnut and pinks from madder root. The back of the quilt is an improvised mix of the greens and tans seen on the front of the quilt. The front and back were machine pieced, meaning the patchwork is machine sewn. The quilting, meaning the stitches running throughout, is done by hand with walnut dyed cotton sashiko thread. Hand quilting is a very laborious and time consuming process but the impact of the hand stitches cannot be mimicked with a machine. The binding is made with walnut dyed fabric and is also sewn by hand. This medium weight quilt has 100% cotton batting. It is a functional piece that would be best suited as a bedspread or as an accent piece for furniture. Show more
