She went on to play in a wide variety of contemporary and classic theatre ranging from psychologically demanding roles to light comedy. She appeared in Shakespeare's Macbeth (as Lady Macbeth, 1933) and Oscar Wilde's The Importance of being Earnest (1975), which was her last stage performance.
