Forin Kompatscher refuses to call painting into question, and yet his paintings do raise questions in this regard. Kompatscher works from a repertoire that he has developed and expanded for more than forty years, a repertoire that stands for itself in its concise complexity. There are, nonetheless, mostly just glimpses from the respective time to then current, individual periods. What is missing is the attempt to work out individual lines from this that keep the work, beyond the temporary access and the desire for the originality of the moment and its painterly version, in suspense. The works are captivating with an almost forced opulence and therein a play with color, hatching and layering, an intensive suggestive interaction that neither the artist nor his audience can escape.
