Frequently Asked Questions Q1: What is Fluoxetine used for in pets? Ans: Fluoxetine is used to treat behavior problems in pets like separation anxiety, aggression, repetitive habits, and issues caused by fear. It helps cut down on stress-filled behaviors by balancing serotonin levels, and it works best when used alongside a professional training plan. Q2: How long does Fluoxetine take to work in pets? Ans: Fluoxetine might start helping your pet feel a little better in about 1 to 2 weeks, but it usually takes closer to 4 or 5 weeks to see the complete results. It is essential to give the medicine every single day and stay patient, as these types of mood-related treatments need time to work while you continue with behavior training. Q3: Can Fluoxetine be given with food? Ans: Yes, Fluoxetine can be given with or without food, but administering it with food may help reduce the risk of stomach upset. Always follow your veterinarian’s instructions regarding timing, dosage, and administration for best results. Q4: Is Fluoxetine safe for all pets? Ans: Fluoxetine is typically safe when your vet prescribes it, but it should be avoided in pets that have a history of seizures, are younger than six months old, or are already on certain other drugs. You also need to be extra careful if the pet has liver issues or diabetes, or if they are currently pregnant or nursing. Q5: Do I need a prescription to buy Fluoxetine for pets? Ans: You must have a current prescription from your vet to buy and use Fluoxetine. It is important to only use it with a professional’s help to make sure the dose is right and that it safely and effectively helps with your pet's behavior.
