At 44.5cm seat height and pre-assembled out of the box, it is also the most immediately usable piece in the collection. The Seat: Carved Saddle Form The defining feature of the Flux Stool is its seat — a single piece of solid walnut carved into a concave saddle profile that is wider at the front than the back, with the front corners upturning slightly outward in a wing-like flare. This is not a flat board with rounded edges. It is a three-dimensionally sculpted surface that follows the natural seated posture: wider where the thighs rest, narrower where the body centres, with a gentle scoop that keeps the sitter positioned without the need for a back support. The carving is done entirely in solid walnut — no bentwood lamination, no moulded composite. The grain of the wood runs the length of the seat, and the natural figure of the walnut becomes most visible in the curved sections where the light catches the changing grain direction. All edges across the seat — the top surface, the underside perimeter, and the distinctive upturned front corners — are fully rounded and hand-sanded smooth. The legs are connected by a full stretcher system — side stretchers on both flanks and a front stretcher completing the base frame.
