The FMA IA 58 Pucará (Quechua for "Fortress") is an Argentine twin-turboprop ground-attack and counter-insurgency (COIN) aircraft manufactured by the Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA). First flying as a powered prototype in 1969 and entering active service in 1976, this distinctive, low-wing metal monoplane was specifically engineered to operate from rough, unprepared grass airstrips. It remains one of the most iconic military aircraft designed and produced on a large scale in Latin America. A total of approximately 110 production and prototype FMA IA 58 Pucará aircraft were built. Manufactured by Argentina's Fábrica Militar de Aviones (FMA) between 1974 and 1993, this included three initial prototypes and around 107 production IA-58A aircraft.
