The foam is not chemically better — it is the same cleanser. What changes is the mechanics. A dense lather spreads the surfactant evenly across the whole surface at once and reaches into pores and around the nose without you pressing anything, so you can wash thoroughly without dragging your fingertips over wet skin. Wet skin is more fragile than dry skin, and friction is what turns a wash into an irritation. So: not a better clean, a gentler one, with less product.
