Forelle pear tree is thought to originate in northern Saxony and later introduced to the states by immigrants in the 1800's. The Forelle pear tree produces a singularly handsome an d distinctive fruit, yellow with a crimson blush and trout-like speckling (lenticels) from which comes the name Forelle, the German name for trout (keeps better than trout!).
