Series : Banksia Bushland Western Spinebills. "This was a painting that took me round and round in circles. It was a time of discovery as I had not yet understood what it was that I was actually doing, how I was constructing my painting, or possibly what it was I was trying to do. It took ages to resolve and this was the first time I had painted Western Spinebills which I found surprisingly tricky. In the end it reminded me of one of those large heavily embroidered Crewel fabrics, I loved it and decided to keep the original, so it has a spot on my wall and it offers endless fascination". The Banksia Bushland Series was started as a celebration of belonging, memory and discovery. Fi has always lived on the edge of, or surrounded by Banksia Bushland and these little birds often visit her garden. Process: The compositions are created in an intuitive unplanned manner, the use of her sketchbook to study shapes and patterns and the structure of her subject is routinely undertaken, informing her unique designs and helping to develop new ideas for ways to communicate what she sees, feels and notices. "Nothing is planned, its really just about curating , adding, subtracting as I go". Western Spinebills are honeyeaters found in the heath and woodland of south western WA. Nectar and insect feeding.
