Valor Provisions exists to pick a fight with the status quo. This book picks the same fight — for your kids. Forging Valor: George Washington — Before He Crossed the Delaware is a children's book built on the principle this company runs on: the hard right over the easy wrong. Written by our founder, former U.S. Army Ranger Pat Montgomery, it hands children ages 6–10 the version of history most books are afraid to print. Not the marble statue. The real man. A wild, stubborn boy with a temper he fought his whole life. A young officer whose mistakes got men killed — and who carried every name with him into the Revolution. A general freezing beside his soldiers at Valley Forge, making decisions that kept him up at night. A slaveholder who knew it was wrong, chose the easy wrong for most of his life, and changed — the only slaveholding Founding Father who freed his slaves in his will. And in the end, the one leader in history who was handed absolute power and gave it back. Thirteen illustrated chapters. Each one closes on the virtue that moment forged: courage, responsibility, determination, intentionality, humility, bravery, audacity, selflessness, duty, growth, faith. Screens are fighting for your kids' attention every single day. This is ammunition for the other side. The details Hand-signed by author Pat Montgomery — Army Ranger, rancher, founder of Valor Provisions and KC Cattle Company, dad of four Historically grounded — the failures, the fears, and the flaws are in here, because that's where the lessons live Written to be read together, ages 6–10, with front and back matter written straight to parents Dedicated to six soldiers who gave everything for something bigger than themselves Book One of the Forging Valor series "Do we want to raise good children, or do we want to raise resilient and capable adults?" — from the author's Note to Parents
