Formthotics History The discovery of Formthotics, like many other revolutionary ideas, was deceptively straightforward. In 1970, while walking barefoot in the sand, Dr. Charlie Baycroft had the realisation that our feet were not designed to walk on the hard, flat, unforgiving surfaces of today's world. This was the genesis of the Formthotics movement. At the same time as this realisation, David Boyd co-inventor of Formthotics, boot fitter, professional skier (at the time), and now Director of Foot Science International realised that custom orthotics not only enhanced his skiing but also made his ski boots more comfortable. He studied how to make custom orthotics out of thermoformable foam and developed prototypes to test the theory.
