Formula Five is the paste wax most production shops run on a seasoned mold, and it is the base layer of every release system: wax first, PVA over it only when the tool is new or the part is a one-off you cannot afford to lose. It is blended for good rub-out and for the maximum number of release cycles per application. Where it goes: gelcoated molds and tooling surfaces where surface quality and finish consistency matter. Build the film in coats. A new mold wants several coats with buffing between them, not one heavy application. High gloss. The wax buffs out to a gloss that transfers to the part surface. Maximizes releases per application, so you are not rewaxing after every pull on a seasoned tool. Let each coat haze before you buff it, and buff with a clean cloth per coat. Buffing a hazed coat with a wax-loaded rag just moves it around and leaves streaks that print into the next part.
