This unique Fossilized Leaf Specimen measures 8" x 6" x 0.75". Fossil plants are not found in as many deposits or localities as most other invertebrates. Like other organisms, plan ts are preserved as fossils by a sequence of events that results in their burial in a suitable medium. In order to become fossilized, plants must be in a watery environment and become buried in mud and silt. These fossils are from plants that flourished over 60 million years ago. During the time after the great extinction of the dinosaur, many plant species, new flora (the flowering plants, Angiosperms), and deciduous rainforests flourished with retreating seas and a subtropical climate. Each piece is similar, though no item at Crystal Joys is exactly the same as every item is a unique stone that is non-fabricated. Slight variations in color, size, and shape may exist.
