Four Loko Watermelon 24OZ is a 12% ABV flavored malt beverage sold in a supersized 24-ounce single-serve can. Among the brand's extensive flavor lineup, the watermelon expression consistently ranks as one of the most popular and accessible, frequently cited by reviewers as one of the easiest Four Loko variants to drink. Quick Facts: ABV: 12% (8% in select states) | Origin: Chicago, Illinois, USA | Style: Flavored Malt Beverage | Producer: Phusion Projects (Drink Four Brewing Company) Production & Heritage Four Loko is produced by Phusion Projects, a Chicago-based company operating under the name Drink Four Brewing Company. The brand originally gained notoriety for combining alcohol with caffeine, taurine, and guarana — the four ingredients that inspired its name. In November 2010, those stimulant ingredients were voluntarily removed following FDA scrutiny, leaving the current formula: a malt-based alcoholic beverage with carbonated water, sugar, and natural and artificial flavorings, including FD&C Red 40 for its distinctive color. At 12% ABV packed into a 24-ounce can, the watermelon variant delivers a significant amount of alcohol — officially listed as containing approximately 4.75 standard servings per can. Tasting Notes Aroma: The nose is unmistakably artificial watermelon, landing squarely in candy territory. Think watermelon Jolly Ranchers straight from the wrapper, with a faint citrus backdrop underneath the dominant sweetness. Taste: The initial sip delivers an intensely sweet watermelon candy flavor that multiple reviewers have compared to a liquified Jolly Rancher or watermelon Sour Patch Kids. A sweet-tart balance emerges at mid-palate, where a light lemon-lime edge cuts through the fruit sweetness. The 12% ABV is surprisingly well-masked beneath all that sugar, though a mild alcohol warmth surfaces as the liquid settles. Finish: The finish is short to medium, leaving a sticky-sweet watermelon candy coating on the palate. A faint citrus tartness lingers, along with a subtle malt backbone that briefly reveals the beverage's base. How to Drink Four Loko Watermelon This is a ready-to-drink beverage designed to be consumed ice-cold, straight from the can. Pouring it over a full glass of ice helps mellow the sweetness and keeps it at the low temperature where the flavor works best. Given the high sugar content and bold artificial watermelon profile, Four Loko Watermelon can also function as a mixer: try it as a base in a watermelon punch with fresh lime juice and club soda to temper the sweetness, blend it into an adult watermelon slushie with frozen fruit for a summer drink, or use a small pour to spike a glass of lemonade for an impromptu watermelon lemonade with extra kick. Both Four Loko and Joose occupy the high-ABV flavored malt beverage category, though Four Loko Watermelon sits at 12% ABV compared to Joose's typical 9.9% ABV. Four Loko generally delivers a sweeter, more candy-forward profile and comes in a larger can, while Joose has become significantly harder to find in many markets. Is Four Loko Watermelon good for beginners? The watermelon flavor is widely considered one of the most approachable in the Four Loko lineup because the sweetness effectively masks the alcohol. However, the 24-ounce can contains roughly 4.75 standard drinks, so newcomers should be aware of the total alcohol content and pace themselves accordingly. Where is Four Loko Watermelon made? Four Loko Watermelon is produced by Phusion Projects, which operates as Drink Four Brewing Company and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The brand is distributed nationally across the United States, with ABV varying by state — 12% in most markets and 8% in states with stricter alcohol regulations. What foods pair well with Four Loko Watermelon? The intense sweetness pairs with salty and spicy snacks: tortilla chips with salsa provide a contrasting heat, spicy chicken wings match well against the sugary watermelon, salty pretzels offer a simple salty-sweet balance, and grilled street corn with chili-lime seasoning complements the citrus undertone in the drink. What sizes does Four Loko Watermelon come in? Four Loko Watermelon is primarily sold in the signature 23.5-ounce single-serve can, commonly marketed as the 24-ounce size. Is Four Loko Watermelon worth the price? For drinkers who enjoy sweet, candy-flavored malt beverages and prioritize value, it delivers exactly what the brand promises. Why Four Loko Watermelon? Four Loko Watermelon has carved out a distinct identity within the flavored malt beverage category by leaning fully into its candy-sweet, high-ABV formula without pretending to be something more refined. The watermelon variant stands out within the brand's own extensive roster — multiple independent reviewers rank it among the top flavors for drinkability, largely because the sweet-tart watermelon profile does an effective job of concealing the 12% alcohol. The oversized 24-ounce format and budget price point make it a fixture at casual social gatherings. Love it or dismiss it, Four Loko Watermelon knows exactly what it is and executes that identity without apology.
