Foursquare Probitas Rum
Foursquare Probitas White Rum. Foursquare Rum Distillery, Saint Philip, Barbados & Hampden Estate, Trelawny, Jamaica — the first direct inter-island collaboration in Caribbean rum history, blending Foursquare's refined Barbadian distillates with Hampden's characterful Jamaican pot still rum into a white rum of extraordinary complexity, bottled without added sugar, flavoring, color, or any adulteration. Probitas is Latin for honesty — and the name reflects both the ethos of the two distilleries behind it and the philosophy encoded in the bottle. Richard Seale of Foursquare and Luca Gargano conceived Probitas as a demonstration of what white rum can be when produced without compromise: a rum that needs nothing added because the raw distillates are already exceptional. Three rums are blended in Probitas: an unaged Foursquare Coffey column still rum (for clean structure and elegance), a 2-year pot still rum also from Foursquare (adding richness and body), and an unaged pot still rum from Hampden Estate in Jamaica using their OWH marque (low-ester by Hampden standards but high-ester by any other measure, lending the Jamaican funk and tropical fruit character that makes Probitas unmistakable). No distillery from two different Caribbean islands had ever formally collaborated on a single spirit before — Probitas was genuinely historic at its release. Non-chill filtered at 47% ABV. 93 points, Wine Enthusiast. Tasting Notes Nose: Beautifully creamy — custard and vanilla, fresh tropical fruit, citrus, and a basket of plantain, mascarpone, and strawberry. Subtle grassy, vegetal cane quality from the Hampden pot still. Baking spice underneath. Palate: Fully textured and oily — far more body than most white rums. Molasses and kola nut, marshmallow, banana, guava. Grassy underripe mango and coconut oil from the Jamaican component. Marzipan and subtle allspice weave through. Finish: Medium-long with black pepper, allspice, and grilled pineapple that linger clearly. Creamy texture throughout; the warmth of 47% carries the spice trail well after the sip. Frequently Asked Questions What does Foursquare Probitas taste like? Beautifully creamy on the nose with custard, vanilla, tropical fruit, plantain, and strawberry. The palate is fully textured and oily with molasses, kola nut, marshmallow, banana, guava, and marzipan. The finish has black pepper, allspice, and grilled pineapple in a long, creamy close. What makes Probitas historically significant? It was the first direct formal collaboration between distilleries from two different Caribbean islands. No Barbadian and Jamaican distillery had previously partnered to produce a single spirit together — making it a genuinely historic moment in Caribbean rum history. Why is it called "white rum" if it has aged components? Probitas contains a 2-year Foursquare pot still component, which gives it more body and complexity than a standard unaged white rum. It is filtered to crystal clarity but not charcoal-stripped of character — it is non-chill filtered, preserving its oils and texture at 47% ABV. Can I sip Probitas neat or is it just a cocktail rum? Both. At 47% ABV with no filtration stripping its character, Probitas is genuinely rewarding neat or with a splash of water. It also stands up beautifully to any cocktail requiring white rum — Daiquiri, Ti' Punch, Mai Tai — where its complexity elevates the drink significantly. What is the Hampden OWH marque? Hampden Estate classifies its rums by ester level — from low to extreme. OWH is Hampden's lowest-ester marque, making it the most approachable and versatile for blending. Even so, it carries more ester character than most other Caribbean pot still rums, which is why the Jamaican funk in Probitas is present but integrated rather than dominating. { "@context": "https://schema.org", "@type": "FAQPage", "mainEntity": [ { "@type": "Question", "name": "What does Foursquare Probitas taste like?", "acceptedAnswer": { "@type": "Answer", "text": "Creamy and tropical on the nose with custard, vanilla, plantain, and strawberry.
