Fozia, a mother of three, grew up herding cattle in her childhood, never getting the chance to attend school. At just 20 years old, she married Mzee Salim Ali, a hardworking man who succumbed to hypertension due to lack of proper medication. His passing left Fozia as the sole caregiver for their children, battling the weight of loss, poverty, and deteriorating health.Struggling to provide for her family, Fozia developed ulcers from prolonged stress and lack of proper nutrition. With no stable income, she resorted to begging for money to buy medicine and food for her children. Her health spiraled further when she was diagnosed with a heart condition, rendering her unable to work. Her children, desperate to survive, began scavenging for food in the village, adding to Fozia’s anguish.Her life took a severe turn when she disappeared from her usual activities for two months. Concerned, the Mama Ibado Charity (MIC) team visited her home and found her in critical condition. Alone and helpless, she was rushed to the hospital where she received life-saving care. Doctors revealed her condition required lifelong management, leaving Fozia devastated as her ability to care for her family slipped away.In March 2023, Mama Ibado Charity stepped in to provide support. Fozia became one of the beneficiaries of MIC’s healthcare program, receiving regular medication, SHIF coverage, and monthly food rations. With MIC’s support, she no longer struggles to afford her treatment or feed her family.Today, Fozia’s health has significantly improved. She has regained her strength, and her children no longer go hungry. Every month, she collects her food ration with gratitude and a renewed sense of hope.
