Freckled Hawkfish (Paracirrhites forsteri / Freckled Hawkfish) A hardy and characterful marine predator, the Freckled Hawkfish is recognised by its mottled “freckled” patterning and curious perch-hunting behaviour. Constantly observing its surroundings from rock ledges and coral branches, it adds personality and activity to larger marine aquariums. Compatibility:Semi-aggressive. Best kept with moderately robust species such as tangs, wrasses, clownfish, and angelfish. Can become territorial toward smaller bottom-dwelling fish and may prey on tiny ornamental shrimp or crustaceans. Reef Compatibility:Reef-safe with caution. Harmless to corals, but may hunt small shrimp and other tiny invertebrates. Larger cleaner shrimp are generally safer once established. Diet:Carnivore – feeds on mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, krill, and quality marine pellets. Feed 1–2 times daily to maintain condition and coloration. Water Parameters: Temperature: 24–27°C Salinity: 1.023–1.026 SG pH: 8.1–8.4 Minimum Tank Size: 180L Care Level:Easy – hardy and adaptable once acclimated. Requires stable water conditions and plenty of rockwork for perching and territory establishment. Top Tip:Provide elevated rock structures and branching décor for natural perching behaviour. Avoid housing with very small shrimp species that may be seen as prey.
