Hanging mobile, 13.75" x 25" Acrylic on canvas Cut from a large painting that I made a long time ago (that painting was called You Make Me See Red). The original painting didn't spring to life the way I wanted. It looked peaceful when it was inspired by suppressed simmering ire, so I pulled it off the stretcher and rolled it up. The colours and textures were nonetheless gorgeous, so I kept the canvas for many years. Recently, I drew one of my signature odd birds on the canvas, cut it out carefully with the box cutter, and glued it with heavy polymer gel medium to another part of the painting with a hard twill nylon string between the pieces for hanging, and weighted the mobile with heavy art books until dried then cut out the second side. Only when it was completely dried and cut did I get to see the colours that made up the second side (the yellow/pink head). I mention all this in case you want to transform something into your own Freebird.
