The French link has proved to be a very popular bit throughout all equestrian disciplines. It has two joints, meaning the pressure is distributed evenly over the tongue and bars of the mouth whilst reducing the nutcracker action of a single jointed bit. The bit should not come into contact with the roof of the mouth and therefore helps to promote correct head carriage. When a bit has more joints the horse is less likely to lean on it because the mouthpiece becomes more moveable. Eggbutt cheeks are fixed, giving more stability and are recommended for horses who are unsure of the bit.
