Every country has excellent literature, and France is no exception. A new type of literature appeared in 18th century France, called Romanticism. Romanticism was a revolt against t he classic rules of literature at the time. While authors of this time were incredible at writing romantic plots full of antirational moments, they also had philosophical pretensions. From Honoré de Balzac's complex characters to Gustave Flaubert's realism, Guy de Maupassant's mastery of the short story and the historical fiction of Alexandre Dumas to the imaginative realism of Victor Hugo, this set combines some of the most celebrated classic French authors into one fantastic 5-volume set. Anyone looking to explore the evolution of French culture - or simply looking for a good read - is sure to find a new favorite in this collection. Each book, published by Everyman’s Library, is wrapped in custom jackets that display the iconic painting Liberty Leading the People by Eugene Delacroix. Show more
