French Marigold is an easy-to-grow annual that produces masses of ruffled flowers in warm shades of gold, orange, and red. Compact, bushy plants grow 12 to 20 inches tall, with den se dark green foliage and cheerful blooms that continue from summer into fall. These colorful flowers are an easy choice for beds, borders, vegetable gardens, and pollinator plantings. Bees and butterflies readily visit the blooms, while the plants’ distinctive aromatic foliage has long made marigolds a favorite companion in the garden. Tagetes marigolds are among the most familiar flowers in American gardens, and for many of us they carry a bit of nostalgia. My own first experience saving seed was helping my grandmother collect marigold seeds when I was barely more than a toddler.
