Silver-crowned friarbird Friarbirds visit the pond by our front door, tilting their funny triangle heads this way and that between drinks. They’re otherwise pretty elusive woodland dwellers, so I am grateful for the ponds around my house as they bring these and other birds to my doorstep. I’ve long wanted to do a friarbird design and finally found time while visiting my partner who was working on Elcho Island in 2025. I spent the day in blissful isolation, working up this rather odd tribute to a rather odd bird. When he came home from work, we went for a walk. We were greeted by a silver-crowned friarbird on the fence as we stepped outside. There was another on the corner at the end of the road and another a hundred metres or so along the road. They all sat and let us pass close by. Friarbird Friday.
