A passion for Vaslav Nijinsky and a desire to express the wonder of his genius (and complexity of his humanity) inspired this work. 'Nijinsky and the Ecstasy of the Divine' is a series made in collaboration with dancer Aleix Martinez in Hamburg Germany in 2014. John Neumeier's Hamburg Ballet performed Nijinsky in 2012 in Brisbane Australia. There I saw a young dancer perform the role of Stanislav Nijinsky. He was mesmerising. In that moment I decided he was the one to work with to create this series. Synchronicity led to the meeting that made the series possible. Without costumes or sets, this is an exploration of essence. From the Shadows is a pondering of the inner world of Nijinsky. The shadows in which he arose from, the shadows into which he retreated. Looking through the window with light reflected on his face, his vision ultimately influenced entire generations of those to come.
