The wing is protecting the CdC The elk hair wing is doing two jobs here. It gives the tent-shaped caddis outline, and it sits over the CdC underneath and protects it, so the fly ke eps floating well after a hackled dry would have gone soggy. When it does finally drown, a few sharp false casts bring it back rather than a squeeze of floatant, which CdC does not thank you for. Barbless, so it comes out of a fish quickly. Show more
