It is often used with polyester, vinyl ester or epoxy resins. It is great for making fillet putty, thickening epoxy for a better glue consistency, and for use below the waterline. Resin drains off a vertical surface but by adding Fumed Silica, the resin can be made to stay in place. Fumed Silica can also be mixed with milled fibers for structural putty and/ or glass microspheres/bubbles for a sandable putty. It is added to the resin at approximately a one-to-one ratio by volume. You may use more or less to suit your application.
