The Fun collection is one of Verner Panton's greatest lighting masterpieces, sparking joy and countless stories since 1964. The Fun 1TM is a large table lamp with a three-ring chrome frame and cascading seashell discs. When Verner Panton created the Fun series in 1964, he was deliberately working against the grain of Danish modernism. Where his contemporaries refined wood and weave, Panton — who had trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and worked in Arne Jacobsen's studio — reached for an unexpected material: mother-of-pearl. Each Fun lamp carries rows of hand-cut nacre discs suspended from a metal frame, so the shade is never entirely still. The shells filter the light into a warm, pearly glow and answer any movement of air with a quiet, glassy chime — a lamp designed as much for the senses as for illumination. VERPAN, the Danish company devoted to Panton's lighting, produces the series today to the original specifications. The 1TM is the largest table version, with three tiers of shells that give it genuine presence — closer to a piece of sculpture than a desk light. It rewards a position where it can be seen in the round: a console in an entryway, a generous sideboard, or a corner table in the living room. In smaller apartments it can take the role a floor lamp would otherwise play, delivering atmosphere from a tabletop and freeing precious floor area.
