The Legacy of the X7 Long Range The X7 Long Range was developed for you folks with range anxiety. While the standard X7 could do 25 miles range, which is awesome for a board that is in the form factor of the original XR, we thought how we could push the envelope and do the impossible. It took 2 long years, first we developed a controller box that could house a powerful controller (Thor301), AND have enough space to house another small battery pack in front, AND also have a full size handle; next, making sure the Battery packs are safely built, securely housed, and most importantly, have a reliable, smart BMS that can monitor the cells on the go, and provide critical safety feedback while charging, riding, or otherwise. The current BMS just didn't cut it, so we spent a year and worked with Benjamin Vedder (the V in VESC) and team to develop the first and official VESC BMS for single-wheeled PEVs.
