The gi is approx. 550gsm top, pearl weave but with a vintage feel (the “pearls” are slightly more prominent in the handfeel.) The pants are soft cotton twill with extra knee reinforcement all the way to the cuff. The lapel is a two-tone lapel with unique white piping. White piping is also present on the arm and leg cuffs. This gi comes with a gi bag that doubles up as a tote bag. The Furinkazan Kimono is a high end BJJ gi with numerous special touches that elevate it beyond just a training uniform. Taking direct inspiration from formal Japanese kimonos, the gi features multiple embroideries that show artwork that was originally hand-drawn by Shisamu Iwase, the artist known as ‘Ukiyoemon’. The art itself is kanji depicting “Furinkazan” (風林火山), literally “Wind, Forest, Fire, Mountain,” and refers to a famous battle banner associated with the Sengoku-era warlord Takeda Shingen. The phrase comes from The Art of War by Sun Tzu, and each element describes an ideal quality of an army in motion: move swiftly like the wind, advance calmly like a forest, attack fiercely like fire, and remain unshakeable like a mountain.
