Furnace is an engine-building Eurogame in which players take on the roles of 19th-century capitalists building their industrial corporations and aspiring to make as much money as they can by purchasing companies, extracting resources, and processing them in the best combinations possible. Our review and recommendation: A customer asked us to make an organiser for this game, and recommended it to us. So we decided to buy it and try it out (and make the organiser for them now available on our website). I can say this game is quite pleasant. A bit of bidding for the cards, and resources, and then claim your winnings to build your industrial engine! You'll want to produce and get that engine fine tuned in order to compete with your opponents. After bidding everyone plays out their own engine, of which all players do at the same time (so we don't unnecessarily slow down the game). This does require a bit of honesty between all players, and during a teach you'll want to take turns running your engine to ensure all players understand the mechanics. But once everyone is up to speed, the game really takes off with no downtime, regrouping at the start of the next round to bid against your opponents. I like to think of this game have two phases - Phase 1 player interaction (bidding), Phase 2 solo play (engine run). Every game I've had has been enjoyable, and due to the light, yet strong engine mechanic we've got this to the table fairly frequently with all our board gamer friends. Strongly recommend as a lighter game that will give you zero downtime. I'll rank this one a strong 8.2/10 (with our upgrades of course! - yes one issue with the base game it doesn't come with enough Tokens needing to use multiplier cards - so I had to upgrade these tokens).
