Yuu Haruna is a chronic Twitter addict and confirmed introvert who has just transferred to a new school in Tokyo. He collides — literally — with Fuuka Akitsuki on his first night out, she smashes his phone assuming he was photographing her, and their relationship begins on exactly that note. Fuuka turns out to be a girl of overwhelming energy and zero cell phone, which in the current era makes her feel like a force of nature from another time. She has an extraordinary raw singing voice and a determination to start a band. Yuu, who plays bass, gets drafted. Their growing closeness is complicated by the reappearance of Koyuki Hinashi — Yuu's childhood friend, now a famous idol singer who still has feelings for him and whose return forces everyone to figure out what they actually want and who they want it with. Fuuka is a 12-episode romance series produced by Diomedéa, directed by Keizou Kusakawa, and based on Koji Seo's manga — a spiritual successor to Seo's earlier series Suzuka, set in the same world with one of Suzuka's characters appearing. The anime is notable for diverging significantly from the manga midway through the series, delivering an original ending that avoids one of the manga's most controversial plot developments. The English dub notably features dubbed versions of the songs performed by the English voice cast.
