Despite its small size, it boasts tall, fan-like dorsal spines that are venomous and should be approached with caution. Typically shy at first, it will spend time hiding during acclimation but soon becomes an engaging tank inhabitant. Best kept in aquariums of 50 gallons or more with plenty of hiding spots.
