FAQS Here are the most frequently asked questions about Fygg's prebiotic hydroxyapatite toothpaste - and their answers. What makes Fygg toothpaste different from other natural toothpastes? No harsh chemicals, no fluoride and featuring the highest quality nano-Hydroxyapatite on the market, Fygg was designed to promote a healthy oral microbiome while protecting your teeth. Other toothpastes include unnecessary and potentially harmful ingredients like foaming agents, preservatives and other powerful chemicals. Fygg contains only what is required to remineralize teeth and support the oral microbiome, which is what toothpastes should have been engineered to do from the very beginning. An oral microbiome supportive remineralizing toothpaste without surfactants, emulsifiers, fluoride, and essential oils. Simple. Effective. Safe. This is what makes Fygg unique. We are a "less is more" brand. Founded by two whole-body, functional dentists who have scrutinized the industry, the research, and the efficacy of the competition for years, our formulations have been labors of love and made with genuine passion for creating a better and safer product. We were able to successfully remove the unnecessary ingredients that the industry has long included in their toothpastes solely for cheaper and more efficient methods of mixing large batches of toothpaste. Removing these ingredients allows us to manufacture a paste that tastes good, feels good, and actually works and does not cause harm. Nourishing the oral microbiome and remineralizing teeth; what toothpaste should have been engineered to do from the very beginning. What is hydroxyapatite? Hydroxyapatite is a naturally-occurring mineral composed of calcium and phosphate, the same mineral that makes up the enamel of your teeth and a majority of your bones. It has been used for decades in the medical, dental, and cosmetic industries for its unique properties. Our toothpaste contains a carefully balanced blend of the nano and micro forms of hydroxyapatite, making it extremely effective. Hydroxyapatite provides a protective layer to help remineralize and strengthen your teeth, while also helping to reduce the formation of plaque, and making teeth appear whiter and feel smoother. Hydroxyapatite can also help to reduce sensitivity and improve the overall health of your teeth and gums by supporting your oral microbiome. Is nano-Hydroxyapatite (nano-HAp) safe in our toothpaste? Yes, nano-Hydroxyapatite (nano-HAp) has been used in toothpaste for over four decades in countries such as Japan and Italy. In March of 2023, the SCCS in Europe announced its final decision regarding nano-HAp, stating that based on the data provided, the SCCS considers hydroxyapatite (nano) safe when used at concentrations up to 10% in toothpaste, and up to 0.465% in mouthwash. Fygg's nano-HAp source is currently the only SCCS-approved nano-HAp, meeting or exceeding all SCCS guidelines regarding nano HAp concentration, particle size, and shape. The SCCS safety evaluation only applies to the hydroxyapatite (nano) with the following characteristics: composed of rod-shaped particles of which at least 95.8% (in particle number) have an aspect ratio less than 3, and the remaining 4.2% have an aspect ratio not exceeding 4.9; the particles are not coated or surface modified. Why doesn’t Fygg toothpaste include fluoride? Excessive fluoride has been deemed toxic to the fetal and infant brain and it is unnecessary for proper oral health. No one is fluoride deficient. Fluoride is not an essential nutrient, nor is it needed for cavity prevention and optimal oral health. Toothpaste containing fluoride has a poison control label on it and for good reason...it can increase the risk of dental and skeletal fluorosis, which is a condition that causes discoloration and mottling of the teeth and weakened bones, respectively. Additionally, over 70 studies have shown excessive amounts of fluoride in pregnancy and early childhood are linked to a decrease in IQ, not to mention a slew of other health concerns associated with fluoride consumption, such as it’s impact on the thyroid. It has no business in our bodies or in our products. Research shows hydroxyapatite (a mineral naturally found in our teeth and bones) to be as effective, with some data showing it outperforming fluoride. Seems like a no-brainer to us. Can all Fygg toothpaste flavors be used by children? Yes! All Fygg flavors are effective for all ages. We do encourage working on teaching your child to be able to spit out, but know how tricky this can be for very young children, so simply use a small smear of toothpaste. This is enough to be efficacious until spitting is learned! Is Fygg toothpaste recommended by dentists? The founders are both dentists, so absolutely! Beyond Dr. B and Dr. Staci, dentists world-wide are embracing hydroxyapatite-based toothpastes and suggesting it to patients as a first line of defense for remineralization and to help with sensitivity and whitening.
