GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is the brain’s primary inhibitory neurotransmitter, helping regulate nervous system activity associated with calm and relaxation. As a supplement, GABA is commonly taken to support a balanced mood, relaxation, and a healthy response to everyday stress.In a placebo-controlled human study, 100 mg of GABA was associated with changes in brain-wave activity in response to a stress task approximately 30 minutes after supplementation, suggesting a potential stress-protective effect (Yoto et al., 2012).
