Galanthus plicatus 'Trym' is one of the most famous and influential of all snowdrops, discovered by Jane Gibbs in her garden at Westbury-on-Trym near Bristol, and it caused a sensa tion when it first appeared. Its hallmark is that the three outer segments are unusually broad and held outward and upward, each carrying a bold green mark and apical notch that mirror the inner segments, so all six tepals resemble one another and differ mainly in size. This striking, almost geometric form earned it the term inverse poculiform and made it the parent of a whole tribe of related seedlings. It grows on the broad pleated leaves of the Crimean snowdrop, flowers in late winter, and remains highly prized. Show more
