The Galaxy Pleco, also known as the Vampire Pleco or Tooth-Nose Pleco, is a striking freshwater catfish from South America characterized by a dark, black body covered in bright white or yellow spots, resembling a starry night sky. It can grow to about 9-10 inches (23-25 cm) and is known for its territorial nature, particularly towards other plecos. The fish requires a stable freshwater environment with hiding places like rocks and driftwood, and a diet rich in protein. Behavior & Temperament Territorial: Like many armored catfish, they are territorial and can become aggressive towards conspecifics (similar fish), especially when it comes to establishing territory, though they are generally peaceful with different species. Bottom Dweller: They spend most of their time on the aquarium floor, scavenging for food. Aquarium Environment Tank Size: A minimum tank of 50 gallons is recommended to house this fish. Habitat: A planted aquarium with rocks, driftwood, and dense vegetation provides a healthy environment and hiding spaces to reduce stress.
