Overview Three Models to Fit Your Mission The AXIS lineup launches with three 11.6-inch display options: GDU 116NC GDU 116C GDU 116B All three displays provide complete system control, including flight planning, loading and activating instrument approaches, and managing connected avionics directly from the display. This is a significant improvement over the current G3X system, which requires switching between internal and external GPS sources for flight plan manipulation and relying on an external navigator to load and activate approaches. GDU 116NC The GDU 116NC is the flagship model of the AXIS family. This display combines a fully certified WAAS GPS navigator, NAV/COM radio, and audio panel into a single unit. The result is a complete IFR solution with functionality comparable to a GTN 650 Xi while requiring far less panel space. It's an excellent option for aircraft with compact instrument panels, such as the Van's RV-8. GDU 116C The GDU 116C offers all of the same premium features as the NC model while omitting the integrated NAV radio; it includes a Certified WAAS GPS, COM radio and Integrated audio panel. Think of it as combining the capabilities of a GNC 355 or GTN 635 Xi with an integrated audio panel—all within the AXIS display. GDU 116B The GDU 116B (Certified) and GDU 116BX (Experimental) serve as the foundation of the AXIS lineup and are the direct successors to the popular GDU 460. Don't mistake "base model" for limited capability. When paired with existing Garmin panel-mounted navigators, the GDU 116B delivers functionality comparable to the higher-end AXIS displays. Connected to Garmin's 2-inch navigators, it provides capabilities similar to the GDU 116C. Pair it with a GTN Xi, and it offers functionality comparable to the GDU 116NC. Another major enhancement is support for VNAV descents with Garmin's 2-inch navigators, a feature that was previously exclusive to the GTN series. More Displays Coming in 2027 Garmin also announced two smaller AXIS displays arriving in the first quarter of 2027: GDU 80P (Certified) and GDU 80PX 8-inch Portrait GDU 80L (Certified) and GDU 80LX (Experimental) 8-inch Landscape These displays will provide the same modern AXIS interface in a more compact form factor for aircraft with limited panel space, or for those who want to fit as much display as humanly possible into their panel.
