The Garmin Forerunner 945 is a serious watch for serious athletes. An update to the Forerunner 935, the Garmin watch is perfect for triathlons and trail runs when you need beefier mapping and training features. Garmin also added new safety features, so you can train in confidence. Better training starts with better data, and the Forerunner 945 has plenty of it. The GPS watch does the basics flawlessly: distance, pace, time and heart rate are all displayed on your wrist. It also gives you full-color maps for easy navigation in unfamiliar territory, and built-in safety features let you share your location with contact in case you need help. But the Garmin device also monitors your performance. Over time, the device adjusts its personalized insights to match your training history. Met your steps goal for the day? Garmin will increase it for tomorrow. Improved your VO2 max? The watch will let you know. It will even measure your overall training load—a numerical representation of the combined strain that all your activity puts on your body—to let you know if you’re going too easy, too hard or just right. Garmin gives it a waterproof rating of 5 ATM, meaning it can withstand depths down to 50 meters, and it has a battery that will last up to two weeks in smartwatch mode, 36 hours running GPS and 10 hours when you’re tracking and listening to music. The improvements maintain the Forerunner 945’s place as a frontrunner in the GPS watch market. Not sure which Garmin is best for you? See our comparison of Garmin GPS watches.
