The Le Rhone 9C is a compact, dependable rotary aircraft engine that played a vital role in the early air war of World War I. Developed by Société des Moteurs Le Rhône, the 9C was designed to deliver reliable performance in a lightweight, mechanically simple package, ideal for early fighters, scouts, and trainers. This nine-cylinder, air-cooled rotary engine produced approximately 80 horsepower, making it well suited to the lighter aircraft of 1914–1916. Like other Le Rhône designs, the 9C used an intake-through-the-crankcase system, which promoted even fuel distribution and smooth running while reducing mechanical complexity.
