This medication is utilized to address the symptoms of gastro-oesophageal reflux such as acid regurgitation, heartburn and indigestion (associated with reflux), e.g. post-meal, pregnancy or patients with reflux oesophagitis. Each 10ml oral suspension comprises 500mg Sodium Alginate, 267mg Sodium Bicarbonate and 160mg Calcium Carbonate. It works in two ways: a combination of two antacids to balance out too much stomach acid and an alginate that creates a protective layer that sits on top of the stomach contents, shielding it from the lining of the oesophagus. Gaviscon Liquid contains Sodium Alginate, Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate for indigestion and heartburn.
