Around him, a cartoo n-like audience looks on from the blackness, turning the private act of looking into something public, comic and charged. The title plays with the closeness of Gaze and gays, letting the painting move between erotic looking, queer humour, and theatrical display. But the viewer is not outside the scene. Standing before the work, we become part of its chain of looking: one man looking, an audience looking, and finally the art viewer looking too.
