Eleven 5×7" Gelli plates packed for classroom and workshop use. The smaller plate format makes this the right pack for younger students, shorter sessions, or workshops where storage and portability matter. Eleven plates cover a small group with a demo plate spare. Gelli plates exist because traditional gelatin printing plates were impractical in a teaching context — they cracked, perished, needed refrigeration, and turned mouldy. Joan Bess developed the modern Gelli plate in Pennsylvania, using mineral oil and proprietary binders to deliver the same tacky, ink-receptive surface in a permanent form. Treated reasonably, these plates last for years of teaching use. 5×7" is a good size for postcards, greeting cards, ATCs, sketchbook pages, and small prints — projects that finish in a single workshop session and don't intimidate students who haven't worked with paint before. Pair with acrylic or water-based block printing ink, brayers, stencils, and printing paper for a complete monoprinting setup that doesn't require a press.
