Gem Tang (Zebrasoma gemmatum) The Gem Tang is one of the most sought-after surgeonfish in the marine hobby, prized for its deep chocolate-black body covered in crisp white spotting and contrasted by a bright yellow tail. Native to the western Indian Ocean, it inhabits coral and rocky reef habitats, where it is typically seen singly and is known to be territorial. In the aquarium it makes a stunning display fish, but because of its activity level, strong personality and need for a spacious, mature marine system, it is best suited to keepers with solid marine experience.
