Following on from the Mercury project, the Gemini project saw NASA develop the technology and techniques that would be needed to reach the moon, including spacewalks, rendezvous an d docking, and long duration spaceflights. Although Gemini project patches we rarely used at NASA at the time, this is a replica of the one exception - a rare and sought-after patch with a distinctive blue background that was actually used by some of those who worked on the project.
