The General Practitioner is a classic full-dressed salmon fly pattern that was originally tied in the late 1950s by Dr. Arthur Cove of Devon, England. It quickly became famous on b oth Atlantic salmon and steelhead rivers. Why It Works Its slim, curved profile and vibrant orange mimic shrimp and prawns, which are natural salmon prey in estuaries and rivers. The flowing golden pheasant feelers give life-like movement. Bright colors make it an excellent attractor pattern in clear or peaty water. Variants General Practitioner Red – uses red floss instead of orange. General Practitioner Black – darker body for low water conditions. Modern GP Tubes – tied on plastic, aluminum, or brass tubes for easier casting and depth control. Show more
